The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has declared its intention to appeal the sentencing of its Secretary-General, Marshall Dlamini. Dlamini received an 18-month suspended sentence and a fine for assaulting a police officer after the 2019 SONA. EFF argues that Dlamini acted in defense of its leadership amid threats against party leader Julius Malema.
